Are Bare & Fair products vegan and cruelty-free?

All of our products are cruelty-free and never tested on animals. Most formulas are vegan, with the exception of those containing ghee or beeswax (like our ghee-based balms and some lip treatments), which are clearly labeled.

What is ghee and why do you use it?

Ghee is clarified butter that has been used in Ayurvedic beauty rituals for thousands of years. It's incredibly rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, and penetrates deeply to nourish skin from within. Unlike regular butter, ghee has had the milk solids removed, making it shelf-stable and suitable for skincare.

It means we draw from classical Ayurvedic herbs and rituals—like saffron, turmeric, amla, bhringraj, manjistha, brahmi, and ghee—while formulating through a modern, safety-first lens and respecting cosmetic regulations. We honor tradition without making medical claims.

However, our formulation methods and techniques are inspired by traditional beauty rituals from around the world—including Ayurvedic practices from South Asia, Moroccan beauty traditions, and more. We honor these heritage methods while sourcing responsibly and locally.

Many of our formulas are designed with sensitive, reactive skin in mind, using gentle surfactants, soothing botanicals, and avoiding harsh drying alcohols or heavy synthetic fragrance. As with any active botanicals, we recommend a patch test first—especially if your skin is prone to irritation or allergies.

We formulate with lightweight, thoughtfully chosen oils and humectants and avoid heavy mineral oil; however, "non-comedogenic" can vary from person to person. If you're very breakout-prone, start with a small amount on a limited area and see how your skin responds.

How should I layer Bare & Fair in my routine?

As a guide: cleanse → mist (if using) → water-based serums (like aloe/gel serums) → face creams → face oils and balms as the final sealing step. For hair, we suggest: scalp oils pre-wash → shampoo/condition or mask → hair serum as a finishing step on damp or dry lengths.

Most full-size products are designed to last around 2–3 months with daily use, depending on how much you apply; a little often goes a long way with our concentrated face oils, serums, and balms.

Store products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Our natural formulations don't contain synthetic preservatives, so proper storage helps maintain their effectiveness. Oils and balms may become firmer in cold temperatures—this is normal. Simply warm between your palms before applying.

Most of our products have a shelf life of 12-18 months when stored properly. Each product has a PAO (Period After Opening) symbol indicating how long it stays fresh after opening. Generally, face oils last 6-12 months, body butters 12 months, and lip balms 12-18 months.
